Russell Wilson to deliver Wisconsin commencement speech

Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson was only at Wisconsin for one season, but the school is bringing him back in May.

Wilson will deliver Wisconsin's commencement speech during the May 14 graduation ceremony in Madison, the school announced Wednesday.

In a video posted to the UW website, Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell — another former Wisconsin quarterback — joined Wilson for the announcement.

"It's an honor to be the 2016 spring commencement speaker," Wilson said. "I'm looking forward to it."

After receiving his bachelor's degree at North Carolina State, Wilson transferred to Wisconsin for his final season of eligibility in 2011. He led Wisconsin to a Big Ten championship and Rose Bowl berth, but lost to Oregon in the Rose Bowl to finish the season 11-3. Wilson was a third-round pick of the Seahawks in the 2012 draft and helped the Seahawks win Super Bowl XLVIII and return a year later.

Wilson will not be compensated for his speech, but the school will cover his travel expenses.
